Nigerian actress Halima Abubakar has weighed in on the controversial revelation by rapper Clifford Harris, known professionally as T.I, that he takes his daughter annually for virginity tests.

Sharing her experiences, Abubakar admitted that her father -while growing up- used to take her to different doctors regularly to confirm whether she was still a virgin.

Abubakar, however, noted that while she hated the practice deemed by some as traumatic, humiliating and barbaric, there was nothing wrong with parents subjecting their daughters to virginity tests.

“I don’t see anything wrong in checking if your daughter is still a virgin. I remember my dad taking me to see different doctors, just to be sure. He stopped after the 3times. I hated him then a bit. But he is just a father trying to protect his stubborn daughter,” she wrote.

A position not taken lightly by critics who on Tuesday, November 5, condemned the rapper after he revealed to the presenters that his 18-year-old daughter, Deyjah Harris, has been undergoing the examination since he was 16.

“Usually like the day after the [birthday] party, she’s enjoying her gifts, I put a sticky note on the door: ‘Gyno. Tomorrow. 9:30.’

“We’ll go and sit down and the doctor comes and talk, and the doctor’s maintaining a high level of professionalism. He’s like, ‘You know, sir, I have to, in order to share information’. I’m like, ‘Deyjah, they want you to sign this so we can share information. Is there anything you would not want me to know? See, doc? Ain’t no problem,” said TI.

After it went viral on social media and elicited sharp reactions, the Grammy-winning musician’s podcast was removed on Wednesday afternoon.
